This delicate bird is cut into a rare wood called pecky sinker cypress. After cutting, the hummingbird is filled with turquoise mica resin and the whole piece is sealed. The pecky holes in the cypress are made by a fungus. The fungus invades the tree when it is about 125 years old and does not die until the tree dies. The sinker part of the name means the tree fell in the river or swamp after it died and remained there for many years. This wood is is at least 500 years old, and can be as much as 2000 years old.

PLEASE NOTE: Do not clean resin with paper towels, or use any chemicals such as window cleaners. It can be dusted with a soft paintbrush or wiped with a slightly damp chamois or very soft tshirt.
